Australia’s Five Most Expensive Sales in 2021

A wild year in the housing market saw some seriously remarkable sales across the country. According to Domain.com, Australia saw an increase of 21.9% in prices in 2021, the fastest annual growth rate on record.

Three out of the top five sales were not only in Sydney but in the small hyper-exclusive enclave of Point Piper. One particular standout was a $37 million boat shed. Nestled on Sydney Harbour in the heart of the affluent Eastern Suburbs, Point Piper is home to many notable celebrities, successful business people and billionaires.

Don’t scratch your eyes; yes that is a $37,000,000 sale for a boat shed. Set on 2000 square metres of absolute harbour frontage, this property boasts one of the largest private marina berths on Sydney Harbour. This property also features a harbourside swimming pool and — most likely a large reason for the extravagant price — has recently been approved for the rebuilding of a house.

This ultra-modern home was recently featured on Amazon Prime’s ‘Luxe Listings Sydney’. One of only three absolute waterfronts on Wingadal Place, this 5-bedroom multi-storey home is positioned on 961 square metres of land and features two kitchens, a poolside cabana, multiple alfresco terraces and plenty of outdoor entertaining platforms. There is also a vaulted copper ceiling on the top floor estimated to be around $1 million itself.

Macquarie Bank Executive Nick O’Kane purchased this property from Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow for $40 million. There is not too much public information on this luxury home other than this four-level architectural gem features sweeping views of Sydney Harbour.

The only property outside of Sydney on our list is ‘Invergowrie’, recently offloaded by former Australia Post boss Ahmed Fahour.

Listed in 2018, this 1.1 hectare compound boasts five bedrooms, a separate three-bedroom guest house, another two-bedroom cottage and a hall/gym. The main colonial goth household has 15 different rooms and is centralised around impeccably maintained lawns and gardens.
